The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a strong call to the Federal Government to prioritize social dialogue as a cornerstone of governance in 2025.
NLC President, Mr. Joe Ajaero, emphasized this imperative in his New Year message, titled “In 2025, Hope is our Collective Resolve.”
Ajaero stressed the crucial role of social dialogue in achieving industrial peace, urging the government to not only engage in meaningful discussions with trade unions but also to uphold agreements reached.
He underscored the importance of recognizing trade unions as vital partners in national development, representing the interests of the people and contributing to the nation’s progress.
Ajaero called on all levels of government to ensure that governance translates into tangible benefits for citizens, emphasizing that the welfare of the people is the fundamental purpose of any government.
He advocated for a system grounded in social dialogue, enabling key stakeholders to actively participate in nation-building. This inclusive approach, he argued, would foster greater ownership of government policies, leading to stability and sustainability.
The NLC president also reiterated the importance of adhering to the 2024 National Minimum Wage Act, stating that a productive nation is one where workers’ incomes adequately meet their basic needs.
He expressed hope for productive engagement with social partners in 2025, calling for unity in creating a Nigeria where workers’ welfare, decent work environments, and security are prioritized.
