Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have staged a protest at the National Headquarters of the Labour Party (LP), demanding the immediate resignation of National Chairman, Comrade Julius Abure.
The demonstrators, barred from entry by armed policemen, voiced grievances against Abure’s alleged corruption and authoritarian rule.
The NLC leadership accused Abure of planning an “illegal convention” to prolong his tenure or appoint allies to oversee the party.
Amidst allegations of financial impropriety, Organised Labour called for an independent audit of the party’s finances.
Meanwhile, the LP’s National Working Committee defended Abure, accusing NLC’s Joe Ajaero of seeking to replace him. The standoff highlights internal divisions within the party and the broader challenges facing Nigeria’s labour movement.
