The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called for a peaceful prayer procession on August 29, in response to the police invitation of its president, Joe Ajaero, for questioning on charges including criminal conspiracy and terrorism financing.
The NLC General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, urged all affiliates and state councils to mobilize members nationwide.
According to the statement, members will gather at the NLC headquarters in Abuja to accompany Ajaero to the police, while state councils will hold prayer sessions at their respective police headquarters.
The NLC condemned the police action as an attempt to intimidate labor leadership and vowed to embark on an indefinite strike if Ajaero is detained.
The union emphasized the importance of peaceful conduct during the procession and stressed the need for solidarity among Nigerian workers to defend their civic rights.
The NLC’s response highlights ongoing tensions between the government and labor over issues affecting workers’ rights and freedoms.
