Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has called on President Bola Tinubu to ensure that no one involved in the alleged scandal in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation is spared.
Obi, in a write-up on his X-handle platform, said the suspension of the minister, Betta Edu, was not enough and demanded a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
He said the ministry, which was created to cater for the poor, was being used as a conduit pipe to steal public funds.
He cited the alleged diversion of N585 million by Edu into a private account of a civil servant, and the ongoing probe of the former minister of the same portfolio for N37 billion misappropriation.
He said such acts were immoral, insensitive, and unacceptable in a time of severe poverty and suffering among the people.
He urged the Tinubu administration to initiate a system-wide and systematic investigation of all cases of fraud and corruption among high government officials in the country.
