Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, has reiterated its demand for Nigeria’s restructuring, insisting it’s the only viable solution to the country’s lingering challenges.
National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ezechukwu Ezechi, said in an interview that regional autonomy will allow each zone to control its resources and develop at its own pace.
Ezechi argued that restructuring would enable federating units to create independent economic roadmaps and encourage fair resource allocation. “There’s a need for financial and structural autonomy so regions can harness their potential,” he said.
The Ohanaeze spokesperson also advocated for stronger institutions, stating that Nigeria’s democracy can only thrive with robust structures that uphold the rule of law.
He emphasized that decentralization would not only reduce overdependence on the federal government but also foster healthy regional competition.
Ezechi urged the federal government to ensure adequate security in all regions, particularly in the South-East, to attract investment and create an enabling environment for businesses. “Restructuring is no longer an option; it is a necessity,” he stressed.
