The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has refuted a report published in Sunday Punch titled ‘FG sets up Panel to Reconstitute Boards of Parastatals,’ branding it as false information.
In a statement released on August 13, the Director of Information at the SGF office, Willie Bassey, clarified that there is no truth to the story. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, asserted that no ad-hoc committee has been established by the government to review resumes for potential board appointments, as mentioned in the published article.
The OSGF’s statement clarified that the recent visit of former Governors Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State and Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State to the SGF office was related to their appointments as ministers and not linked to any adhoc committee.
Furthermore, the statement emphasized that the report inaccurately quoted the OSGF spokesperson in suggesting that 14 agencies were exempted, while in reality, only the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration & Control (NAFDAC) had received the President’s approval for exemption.
The OSGF advised media personnel to cross-check information directly with authorized sources in the office to prevent the spread of inaccurate information originating from social media reports.
