Peter Obi: Corruption Rife in Government, More Than on Streets

Peter Obi, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, claims Nigeria has more “Yahoo boys” in government than on the streets, labeling the country a “crime scene.”

Speaking at Nexford University’s graduation, Obi stressed the need for quality leadership and urged graduates to be agents of positive change.

“It’s not just the Yahoo boys on the streets; many in government are part of the problem,” he said. Obi called for leaders with strong character and integrity to address Nigeria’s systemic issues. He encouraged graduates to use their knowledge to create a better society.

Former Minister of Education Oby Ezekwesili echoed his sentiments, emphasizing that “service is the highest form of leadership.” She urged graduates to see their education as a tool to uplift communities.

Obi and Ezekwesili highlighted the challenges posed by poor leadership and urged the youth to take responsibility for driving societal transformation.

Both speakers concluded by emphasizing the value of integrity, resilience, and community service in leadership and societal growth.
