The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, has admitted that due diligence was not properly carried out before the government recognised the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
She told a House of Representatives panel that her office relied on documents that appeared authentic but were not thoroughly verified.
The admission came as the IGP failed to produce the alleged PFIPC director before the committee, citing a court order.
The scandal has raised fresh questions about the integrity of government approvals and the ease with which dubious entities can gain official recognition.
Many Nigerians see this as another example of systemic failure within the civil service, where due process is often sacrificed for convenience. The committee has vowed to get to the bottom of the matter.
