In a bid to streamline its workforce in line with civil service regulations, the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja has mandated the immediate retirement of officers who have served over 35 years or are aged 60 and above.
The directive, issued via a wireless message on February 10, 2025, follows a resolution passed by the Police Service Commission (PSC) during the 1st Extraordinary Meeting of the 6th Management Board.
Initially, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun had advised affected officers to remain on duty pending further instructions. However, a subsequent letter from Deputy Force Secretary CP Bode Akinbamilowo, dated February 1, 2025, reversed that decision and urged immediate retirement.
The PSC’s communication, signed by its Secretary Nnamani Onyemuche on January 31, 2025, also called for the prompt notification of retiring officers and the swift filling of the resulting vacancies. In a related development, IGP Egbetokun appointed AIG Mohammed Usaini Gumel as the new Assistant Inspector-General for Zone 7 Command, Abuja.
AIG Gumel, known for his extensive experience and academic achievements, has been tasked with maintaining peace and upholding law and order in the zone.
