The Oyo State Police Command has intercepted a truck conveying 40 bags of materials suspected to be explosives during a stop-and-search operation in the Sango area of Ibadan.
Police said the interception followed an intelligence tip-off, leading to the arrest of the driver and seizure of the materials.
Specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and CBRN units have been deployed for forensic examination.
Meanwhile, an Inspector of Police, Aliu Oluwole, was killed during an attack on security operatives at the Budo Masalasi Border Post. The assailants escaped with his AK-47 rifle and ammunition.
The Commissioner of Police has ordered a manhunt for the attackers, some of whom reportedly sustained gunshot injuries.
The incident comes weeks after suspected bandits killed five forest rangers in Oriire Local Government Area, heightening security concerns in the state.
