Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that Nigeria’s 2027 general election will mark a definitive shift in the country’s political landscape, driven by a newly formed opposition coalition determined to “recover and rebuild” the nation.
Atiku spoke in Abuja on Tuesday after meeting a delegation of Kannywood stakeholders, North West opinion leaders, and digital-media influencers led by Dr. Aslam Aliyu, chairman of the PAA 2027 New Media & Digital Communications Forum.
The coalition, Atiku explained, emerged in response to widespread public frustration with the current administration’s handling of security and the economy. “This alliance is a deliberate effort to recover and rebuild Nigeria in line with the yearnings and aspirations of the people,” he told the forum.
He pledged that 2027 “will not be business as usual,” urging members to spearhead civic education campaigns on why Nigerians must back the coalition’s reform agenda.
Atiku also addressed the nation’s deepening insecurity and economic hardship, affirming the coalition’s collective capacity to confront these challenges head-on.
Delegates from the North West voiced full support, drawing lessons from observed shortcomings in voter outreach during the 2023 elections. Interestingly, some attendees admitted regret for previously endorsing President Tinubu.
As the opposition prepares its unified front, Atiku’s message is clear: the next election will be a pivotal turning point for Nigeria’s democracy.
