Dr. Paul Moses Ogidi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate in the last FCT council election, has called for the immediate suspension of the proposed judgment in his petition.
Ogidi argued that unresolved jurisdictional issues surrounding the composition of the tribunal could render any verdict invalid.
In a statement on Tuesday, Ogidi said he has filed a motion challenging the tribunal’s authority, and it would be premature for judges to deliver a ruling before the matter is settled.
He urged the tribunal to halt proceedings until the Supreme Court clarifies the legal questions raised.
The candidate expressed confidence that the tribunal would respect due process, but warned that a rushed judgment could undermine the integrity of the electoral process.
The FCT council election has been mired in controversy, with multiple petitions challenging the results. Ogidi’s case is seen as a test for electoral justice in the territory.
