The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of covertly launching his 2027 re-election bid despite the nationwide security emergency declared by his administration.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party condemned reports that fleets of branded vehicles were recently distributed to political mobilisers under the “Renewed Hope Ambassadors” platform.
The ADC argued that such actions undermine the gravity of the current security crisis and violate the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s approved campaign timetable.
Abdullahi said the development casts doubt on the administration’s sincerity in tackling escalating kidnappings, killings and mass displacement across the country.
He noted that while citizens face daily attacks from criminal groups, the Presidency appears to be advancing partisan interests, warning that leadership during a national emergency requires discipline, not political theatrics.
According to the ADC, Tinubu’s move marks the first time a Nigerian president has allegedly begun re-election mobilisation while presiding over a declared security emergency.
The party called on INEC to take decisive action to protect the integrity of the electoral process.
It urged the President to “fully recommit to addressing insecurity or admit that political ambition is overtaking governance,” insisting that Nigeria needs focus, stability and moral clarity to overcome its current challenges.
