The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed claims that unresolved zoning arrangements are delaying its opposition coalition talks, urging former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to decide whether he intends to join the platform.
The party was responding to comments attributed to Obi, in which he reportedly suggested that the ADC-led coalition was stalling due to disagreements over zoning and other strategic issues.
The ADC has recently gained momentum, attracting political heavyweights such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai.
Speaking to *Daily Trust*, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said zoning is not currently on the party’s agenda, stressing that its priority is building a credible political alternative for Nigerians.
He noted that Obi had earlier expressed interest in joining the coalition after the Anambra governorship election but had yet to follow through.
“Nigerians are watching to see what we intend to do differently. Zoning is not our immediate concern,” Abdullahi stated.
He added that while the party remains open to Obi’s participation, decisions on zoning would only come after the coalition is fully established.
Abdullahi urged Obi to commit to the party’s growth, emphasizing that leaders across several states are already contributing resources and structure to strengthen the ADC nationwide.
