Adebayo emerges SDP presidential candidate

Prince Adewole Adebayo has been elected as the Social Democratic Party’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

The announcement was made during the party’s national convention on Saturday, where delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory unanimously voted for Adebayo.

In his acceptance speech, Adebayo pledged to rescue Nigeria from economic hardship and insecurity if elected. He criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, accusing them of failing the nation.

The SDP candidate promised to prioritise free education, healthcare reform, and industrialisation. He also called on Nigerians to reject the politics of godfatherism and tribalism.

Adebayo’s emergence solidifies the SDP’s position as a third force in the 2027 race. The party had earlier expelled former Minister Labaran Maku over alleged anti-party activities, clearing the path for Adebayo. Political observers note that the SDP is banking on widespread discontent with the two major parties to make inroads.
