The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has suffered another political setback in Kano State after former Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya announced his resignation from the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Gaya, who represented Kano South in the Senate, disclosed his decision in a letter dated April 5, 2026, addressed to the APC ward chairman in Gaya Local Government Area.
The former lawmaker said his defection followed careful reflection and consultations with political associates and constituents.
His exit comes barely days after the APC’s 2023 Kano governorship candidate, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, also resigned from the party and joined the ADC.
Gaya said the APC was originally founded on strong principles but has gradually drifted from its founding ideals.
He also criticised the worsening security situation in Nigeria, claiming that insecurity has spread nationwide.
“Insecurity used to be limited to the North-East during President Buhari’s tenure, but today it is everywhere,” he said.
The development underscores growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, as opposition parties attempt to capitalise on public dissatisfaction with the ruling party.
