Tensions flared within the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee after sharp exchanges over comments directed at Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru condemned remarks by South-South Vice Chairman Hon. Victor Giadom, who called Fubara a “so-called governor” during a visit by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to Gokana last week.
Basiru described Giadom’s language as “unbecoming” of a senior party official and stressed that elected offices must be respected regardless of political differences. “Even if the governor is not in our party, the office is exalted and must be treated with dignity,” he said.
The dispute follows Giadom’s praise for Wike as a “dependable leader” and assertion that Fubara would need Wike’s approval to succeed politically in Gokana.
Local APC figures, including Deputy Speaker Dumle Maol and council chairman Confidence Deko, pledged loyalty to Wike and President Bola Tinubu.
Wike thanked Gokana residents for their support and urged unity, reiterating that APC and PDP members were collaborating under the President’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” to advance development in Rivers State.
