Obinna Simon, widely known as MC Tagwaye, a high-profile entertainer, entrepreneur, and youth leader, has defected from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Once a key member of the APC presidential campaign team for the 2023 elections, Tagwaye now levels harsh criticism at a party he claims has strayed from its founding ideals.
In a pointed statement issued on Friday, he decried the APC’s flawed reward system, arguing that loyalty is neither recognized nor rewarded.
Tagwaye contends that the party’s internal democracy is “egregiously compromised,” with decisions dominated by a select cadre of power brokers who marginalize the majority.
In stark contrast, he described the SDP as a “beacon of hope,” praising its commitment to youth inclusion, transparency, and accountability. His defection is a bold denunciation of what he views as the APC’s rampant cronyism and neglect of democratic principles.
Tagwaye called on Nigerians who share his vision to join him in building a better future, marking his formal exit by submitting his resignation to his APC ward chairman. His move signals growing discontent among grassroots supporters with the APC’s current trajectory.
