Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that he will support the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) who emerges in the 2027 election.
Speaking in an interview with DW Hausa, Atiku dismissed suggestions that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) could weaken the party’s prospects.
INEC recently announced that it would stop further engagement with the ADC leadership and would not monitor the party’s planned national convention scheduled for April 14, citing a court ruling. The party has rejected the decision and vowed to proceed with its activities.
Atiku argued that the party’s growing popularity has made it a target of political interference.
He said the ADC was attracting many young members and aspiring candidates across the country, adding that the party remains committed to youth and women’s inclusion in politics.
The former vice president also blamed Nigeria’s worsening insecurity—particularly in northern states—on youth unemployment and poor access to education.
He warned that corruption and poor governance have pushed many Nigerians to the brink, insisting that citizens are increasingly ready for political change ahead of the next election cycle.
