Tension is building ahead of the APC National Convention as indigenous contractors threaten to stage a protest over delayed payments for government projects, accusing authorities of neglect and financial insensitivity.
The All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria (AICAN) says it is demanding the immediate release of N150 billion out of funds owed for verified contracts.
According to the group, only N21 billion has been paid so far, leaving contractors struggling with debts, stalled projects, and in some cases, life-threatening consequences.
AICAN President, Jackson Nwosu, warned that members could disrupt the convention if urgent action is not taken within 48 hours.
He described the situation as dire, citing cases where contractors allegedly died due to inability to access funds owed to them.
Despite government assurances that payments are subject to verification processes, contractors insist delays have gone beyond reasonable timelines.
With over N1 trillion reportedly outstanding, the dispute threatens to cast a shadow over the ruling party’s major political gathering.
