Mass defections have hit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition groups in Borno State, with key figures dumping their parties to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a coalition platform poised to challenge the APC in 2027.
Notable defectors include ex-governorship aspirants Idris Mamman Durkwa and Mohammed Umara Kumalia, youth leader Hon. Sheriff Banki, and former lawmakers and party executives across Borno’s 27 LGAs.
Reports suggest that meetings led by Mattawali Kashim Ibrahim Imam in Maiduguri are fueling further defection plans. ADC’s rise follows growing dissatisfaction with President Tinubu’s government and internal PDP crises.
The defectors cited worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and political exclusion as key reasons. Banki said the people of Borno are disillusioned with the APC’s failed promises and accused PDP leadership of compromising with ruling elites.
ADC, he claimed, offers inclusive, people-driven politics and a fresh path for Nigeria’s democratic future.
