Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has leveled a scathing critique against the APC, alleging that ministerial positions under Tinubu’s government are effectively bought rather than earned.
Speaking to BBC Hausa from Kaduna, El-Rufai claimed that his decision to leave the APC for the SDP was driven by the party’s rampant disregard for its founding principles and the marginalization of loyal members.
He asserted that appointments are skewed in favor of “Lagos boys” and those willing to pay for influence, leaving genuine contributions unrecognized.
El-Rufai recounted how even before his defection, he sought former President Buhari’s blessing to exit the party—a move that underscores his disillusionment with an organization that appears to operate on favoritism and monetary transactions.
He dismissed popular notions that his departure was solely due to ministerial appointment issues, arguing instead that the party’s overall structure has become an echo chamber for self-interest.
His statements serve as a pointed indictment of the current APC leadership and raise broader concerns about internal democracy and accountability within the ruling political establishment.
