Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a new chapter in his political trajectory months after resigning from the All Progressives Congress.
El-Rufai completed his registration and received his membership card on Thursday at the ADC ward office in U/Sarki, Kaduna.
The former governor said his move followed two years of unheeded warnings about what he described as the APC’s drift away from its founding ideals.
He stressed that the party had become increasingly unresponsive to internal criticism and no longer represented the progressive values that inspired its creation in 2013.
El-Rufai, a major player in the opposition merger that birthed the APC, said his exit was necessary to remain aligned with the principles of transparency, reform and public accountability.
His defection is expected to reshape Kaduna’s political landscape ahead of upcoming elections, with analysts noting that his influence could significantly boost ADC’s strength.
The former FCT Minister, long known for his strong policy positions, now adds political weight to the ADC at a time when several figures have begun reassessing their allegiances in anticipation of broader alignments across Nigeria’s political scene.
