El-Rufai’s Aide Alleges Passport Seizure After Airport Arrest Attempt

Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, was allegedly approached by security operatives at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, in what his aide described as an attempted arrest.

Muyiwa Adekeye, the former governor’s media adviser, said the incident occurred as El-Rufai arrived from Cairo, Egypt. According to him, the operatives sought to take El-Rufai into custody, but he declined, insisting on a formal invitation.

Adekeye further alleged that the operatives seized the former governor’s passport during the encounter. A video shared online showed airport officials attempting to prevent bystanders from recording the scene.

It remains unclear which security agency was involved. El-Rufai had recently told BBC Hausa he anticipated possible arrest, alleging political pressure within the ruling party.
