The leadership of Team New Nigeria (TNN) has accused powerful political interests of pressuring the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to block its registration as a political party.
In a statement signed by TNN spokesman Dr. Mohammed Adah Shaibu, the group said its application has been pending since May 27, 2024, despite receiving an acknowledgment from INEC.
Shaibu expressed frustration that, despite the law requiring a response within 90 days, the commission has remained silent.
He alleged that APC-aligned members within INEC and their collaborators are obstructing the registration process due to fear of TNN’s growing popularity.
The group called on INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu to resist political interference and uphold democratic principles. “Our presence is nationwide.
How long must we wait to deliver our manifesto?” the spokesman asked. TNN warned that Nigerians are closely watching INEC’s actions, which could affect public trust ahead of the 2027 elections. The group urged the commission to protect its credibility by adhering strictly to constitutional provisions.
