INEC Assures Readiness for Edo Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared its readiness to conduct a credible and transparent governorship election in Edo State on September 21.

INEC Commissioner Sam Olumekun, speaking at a media event in Benin, emphasized the commission’s commitment to a free and fair election, noting that recent reforms in the Electoral Act will enhance the election’s credibility.

He urged journalists to hold all stakeholders accountable and ensure unbiased coverage. Olumekun also called on voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and warned against the spread of misinformation or hate speech.

He stressed the crucial role of the media in educating the public on the legal framework governing elections.
