The Independent National Electoral Commission has directed all Resident Electoral Commissioners across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to prepare for the monitoring of political party primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a letter dated May 14, INEC emphasised the need for transparency and adherence to electoral guidelines.
The directive is aimed at curbing malpractices and ensuring that only credible candidates emerge from the primaries. INEC warned that any party that fails to comply with the rules risks disqualification.
This move comes as political parties gear up for internal contests, with many already witnessing disputes over consensus arrangements.
