The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says more than 2.6 million Nigerians have registered in the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
A statement by INEC’s National Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, Sam Olumekun, noted that the figure covers two weeks of online pre-registration and the first week of in-person registration.
Between August 18 and 31, 2025, 2,532,062 Nigerians completed their online pre-registration, with women making up 51.88% and men 48.12%. Young people dominated the figures: 63% were between 18 and 34, while students accounted for over 25%.
The Commission stressed that online registration alone is not valid unless completed at physical centres, where biometric data is captured. It urged pre-registrants to visit any of its 811 state and LGA offices nationwide.
In-person registration, which began on August 25, has already recorded 72,274 completed entries in just five days.
Again, youth participation was dominant, with three-quarters of registrants aged 18–34.
INEC praised citizens and civil society groups for their “positive response” and published a detailed breakdown of the figures on its official platforms.
