Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Edo State, less than 24 hours before the scheduled vote.
In a letter addressed to the national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje, and copied to the acting state chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, Ize-Iyamu cited his decision as painful but necessary for the peace and unity of the party.
This surprising move comes despite being one of the top contenders and having served as Secretary to the State Government under Governor Lucky Igbinedion.
Ize-Iyamu expressed gratitude to his supporters and pledged loyalty to any candidate that emerges from the primary election.
