Hundreds of women in Kogi State staged a protest against what they described as the unjust persecution of former Governor Yahaya Bello by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Led by various community leaders, the protesters converged in Lokoja, chanting songs of solidarity and demanding that President Bola Tinubu intervene in the matter.
The women argued that the EFCC’s actions against Bello were politically motivated, aimed at tarnishing his reputation. They insisted that Bello had performed exceptionally well during his tenure, especially in improving the lives of women and children.
The protesters accused the EFCC of engaging in a “witch-hunt” and urged the agency to focus on genuine cases of corruption rather than political vendettas.
Hajiya Halima Abass, one of the protest leaders, expressed fears that the EFCC’s actions could jeopardize Bello’s life, vowing that the people of Kogi would stand by him.
The women called for justice and fairness, urging the EFCC to allow the courts to determine the merits of the case.
