Kwara PDP Picks Kale Kawu as Consensus Guber Candidate

The Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State has adopted Kale Kawu as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

The decision followed consultations among party leaders and aspirants, led by former Senate President Bukola Saraki. Kawu, a technocrat and former commissioner, emerged as the choice to challenge the APC incumbent.

The consensus move is aimed at presenting a united front and avoiding a divisive primary. However, some party members expressed dissatisfaction, alleging that the process sidelined other aspirants.

The PDP lost Kwara to the APC in 2019 after years of dominance, and the party sees the 2027 race as a chance to reclaim the state.

Kawu’s candidacy will now be submitted to the national leadership for ratification. Political analysts say the PDP must heal internal rifts if it hopes to unseat the ruling party in the state.
