The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is considering an automatic presidential ticket for former President Goodluck Jonathan if he rejoins the party ahead of the 2027 elections, a top official revealed.
Daniel Woyengikuro, PDP’s National Financial Secretary, stated that Jonathan remains a unifying figure. “He is our national leader—the best candidate to salvage Nigeria,” Woyengikuro stated, adding that talks are ongoing to reintegrate the ex-president into party leadership.
Jonathan, who conceded defeat in 2015, has maintained political relevance despite distancing himself from active partisanship.
Analysts say his return could reshape the PDP’s strategy, especially in the South.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde was also touted as a strong contender, with Woyengikuro praising his “vibrant leadership.”
