At its 99th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lambasted President Bola Tinubu’s administration for escalating insecurity and a faltering economy.
The communique, read by Acting National Chairman Iliya Damagum, cited rampant kidnappings, communal violence, and dwindling investor confidence.
The party accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of eroding democracy through intimidation and budget padding, vowing to resist any one-party domination.
Highlighting multi-state crises—from Boko Haram’s resurgence in the North-East to farmer–herder clashes in the Middle Belt—the PDP demanded that security and welfare be constitutional priorities.
The meeting also ratified committees for the August 2025 national convention, with zoning led by Governors Douye Diri (Bayelsa) and Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa).
PDP Governors’ Forum Chair Bala Mohammed warned against “subtle provocations” and affirmed the party’s unity amid external pressure. The NEC will revisit South-East caucus demands on June 30, including the legal status of National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu.
Reiterating its commitment to rule of law and multi-party democracy, the PDP pledged to “rescue the nation from the APC’s grip” ahead of the 2027 elections.
