Rivers APC Demands Emergency Rule Over LG Chair Tenure Crisis

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has called on President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in the state due to an ongoing political crisis over the tenure of local government chairmen.
The APC’s caretaker committee chairman in Rivers, Chief Tony Okocha, made the demand while addressing journalists in Port Harcourt. He declared that the state is currently at war between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the previous governor.
Okocha warned that if the crisis escalates, it could negatively impact Nigeria’s economy given the state’s position in the country. The crisis erupted after Fubara swore in caretaker committees to head the local governments following the expiration of the former chairmen’s tenure, who were said to be loyal to ex-governor Nyesom Wike with whom Fubara is locked in a political dispute.
