The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo State has rejected the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election, calling it a “show of shame.” According to INEC, APC’s Lucky Aiyedatiwa won with 366,781 votes, but SDP chairman Gbenga Akinbuli alleged voter intimidation and harassment.
“Our agents were chased away, and voters were threatened. The results do not reflect the actual votes cast,” Akinbuli said in a press conference.
He demanded the cancellation of the election, describing it as marred by irregularities, including rampant vote-buying.
The SDP’s governorship candidate, Bamidele Akingboye, who received 438 votes, highlighted videos of open vote-buying and voter coercion, asserting that his rightful win was stolen.
He claimed that voters were too scared to turn out in some areas and called on INEC to declare him the winner. “What occurred was not an election but a market exchange. We will not tolerate such fraud,” Akingboye said.
He confirmed that the party’s legal team was preparing to challenge the results in court.
