Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the FCT, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring her move as both strategic and constitutional.
Speaking in Abuja, Kingibe said she was waiting for the right moment to make her defection with “noise and fanfare.”
She defended her decision by citing the current division in the Labour Party, which she says meets the constitutional threshold for defection without penalty. “There are two clear Labour Party factions. Even INEC received two sets of results.
That’s enough to justify my exit,” she said. The Senator expressed confidence in ADC’s future, comparing it to a child still growing. “Don’t judge a crawling child’s ability to run,” she remarked.
Her defection adds to the ADC’s rising profile ahead of 2027, with the party forming a coalition of political heavyweights.
Kingibe’s switch is expected to strengthen ADC’s presence in the FCT and among opposition lawmakers, as the party positions itself as a credible alternative to the APC and PDP.
