The Supreme Court has reserved judgment on appeals challenging the outcomes of recent governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi States. A five-man panel led by Justice Garba Lawal heard arguments from all parties before adjourning for decision.
In Bayelsa, APC candidate Timipre Sylva contests Governor Douye Diri’s victory, while in Kogi, the Social Democratic Party and its candidate Muritala Ajaka challenge Governor Usman Ododo’s election.
Governor Diri’s legal team, led by Chief Chris Uche, SAN, urged the court to dismiss Sylva’s appeal as meritless. INEC and PDP representatives also called for the appeal’s dismissal.
Sylva’s counsel, Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, seeks to overturn lower court decisions that validated Diri’s election, citing discrepancies in vote counting across three Local Government Areas.
