The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s recent appointments of Northerners as insincere and belated, describing them as a panicked response to mounting discontent in the region.
In a statement, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said the move came after over a year of “calculated neglect,” arguing that “token appointments” cannot substitute for true national inclusion.
The party accused the president of sidelining the North in critical decisions, including subsidy removal, while insecurity, rural collapse, and banditry plagued the region.
Abdullahi described the appointments as “Bourdillon-style appeasement politics,” aimed at covering damage rather than fostering unity. “You cannot marginalise a region for over two years and expect applause in the 26th month,” he said.
He warned that Northerners would not be deceived by “symbolic gestures,” adding that real leadership must come through consultation, equity, and adherence to the federal character principle.
The ADC urged Tinubu to replace political tokenism with a sincere commitment to inclusive governance.
