FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has dared the Peoples Democratic Party’s National Working Committee (PDP NWC) to forgo holding another zonal congress in the South-South region following the recent Calabar meeting.
In a goodwill message delivered during the congress in Calabar, Wike asserted that the current event will be the final zonal congress for the South-South.
“The South-South is the strongest PDP zone in Nigeria, and this is our final chance to consolidate unity,” he stated, urging delegates to elect strong leaders committed to protecting the party’s interests.
Wike criticized any attempt to postpone the congress for trivial reasons, emphasizing that unity and transparency are crucial for the party’s future.
Zonal chairman Dan Orbih echoed Wike’s sentiments, noting that internal infighting has weakened the party’s structure.
As the PDP NWC distanced itself from the Calabar event, Wike’s challenge serves as a rallying cry for the South-South to unite and prepare robustly for upcoming national elections. His remarks signal a determination to reshape the party and assert its strength in a competitive political landscape.
