Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land allocation for the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Secretariat in Abuja due to unpaid ground rents for 20 years.
The land, located in the city’s Central Business District, was granted to the party for a 12-story secretariat project initiated in 2008 at an estimated cost of N16 billion. Despite raising over N62 billion through fundraising and election activities, the project remains incomplete.
A letter signed by the FCT Director of Land Administration, Chijoke Nwankwoeze, stated that the revocation was in line with the Land Use Act. The PDP reportedly failed to settle annual rents from 2006 to 2025, despite repeated warnings from the FCT Administration.
The decision has sparked reactions, with party officials yet to officially respond. The revocation signals Wike’s growing influence in Abuja’s land policies and adds another chapter to his strained relationship with his former party, PDP.
