Former President Goodluck Jonathan has identified power struggles as the root cause of conflicts across Africa, particularly in Nigeria.
Speaking at an Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) event in Abuja, Jonathan emphasized that while various reasons are often cited, leadership battles are the true drivers of many African conflicts.
He highlighted Nigeria’s recurring electoral tensions and political violence as evidence of this.
Jonathan also challenged the perception of politics as inherently corrupt, attributing unethical practices to politicians’ mindsets.
He urged Nigerians to embrace a culture of peace, warning that without it, political conflicts will persist despite technological advancements in elections.
