President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unveiled a series of reforms aimed at boosting Nigeria’s economy and providing support to its citizens. These reforms include a provisional wage increase, infrastructure support for states, and a revolutionary shift towards Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses for affordable public transportation.
In his commemorative speech for Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu revealed a comprehensive plan to lead Nigeria towards a brighter future. The president, acknowledging the challenges faced by the nation, outlined a series of ambitious economic reforms and social initiatives.
One of the standout announcements was a provisional wage increment to enhance the federal minimum wage. Over the next six months, low-grade workers will receive an additional Twenty-Five Thousand naira per month. This move is expected to provide much-needed relief to the average worker and improve their quality of life.
President Tinubu also emphasized the importance of grassroots development. To support this, an Infrastructure Support Fund has been established, allowing states to invest in critical areas. States have already received funds to provide relief packages against the impact of rising food and other prices.
Addressing the issue of transportation costs, the president introduced a game-changing initiative. The deployment of cheaper and safer Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses across the nation is set to lower transport fares significantly. New CNG conversion kits are also in the pipeline, along with training facilities to empower transport operators and entrepreneurs.
The president touched upon the ongoing reforms at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), emphasizing the importance of a transparent and accountable financial system. A new leadership for the CBN has been constituted, and a special investigator will soon present findings on past lapses to prevent future occurrences.
Furthermore, President Tinubu inaugurated a Committee on Tax Reforms to improve tax administration and create a fair business environment that promotes growth. Investment funding for enterprises with great potential and increased support for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises were also announced.
In an effort to provide a safety net for vulnerable households, cash transfer programs will be expanded to an additional 15 million households, starting this month.
The president concluded his address by assuring the nation of his commitment to its safety and security. He praised the dedication of Nigeria’s security forces and pledged to equip them adequately to protect the nation’s integrity.
President Tinubu also reiterated his commitment to inclusive governance, promising that appointments would consider women, youth, and the physically challenged. He thanked the National Assembly, judiciary, civil society organizations, and labor unions for their contributions to Nigerian democracy.
He called for unity and emphasized that the journey ahead would require courage, compassion, and commitment from all Nigerians. He expressed his dedication to serving the nation faithfully and invited everyone to join in remaking Nigeria into its better self.
