Tension flared in Abuja on Monday as striking workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) reportedly chased the convoy of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, during a protest over unresolved salary and welfare issues.
A video circulating online showed visibly angry workers chanting and moving toward the minister’s motorcade as it passed through an area near government offices.
The protesters, who have been on an indefinite strike, were demanding urgent attention to what they described as long-standing neglect of labour and welfare concerns.
The industrial action, which began last week, has paralysed activities across major FCTA offices, disrupting public services in the nation’s capital.
In response, the FCT Administration dragged the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC) to court over the strike. The suit, marked NICN/ABJ/17/2026, was filed at the Abuja division of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria and is scheduled for hearing.
The claimants are the FCT minister and the FCTA, while JUAC President Rifkatu Iortyer and Secretary-General Abdullahi Saleh are listed as defendants in their representative capacities.
