A heavy rainstorm has severely damaged the multimillion-naira Kugbo Bus Terminal in Abuja, blowing off sections of the roof and causing massive traffic disruption along the busy Abuja–Keffi highway.
The facility, one of three modern transport terminals built under the administration of Nyesom Wike, has not yet commenced operations.
Witnesses said the storm, which began around 3:30 p.m., was accompanied by strong winds that ripped roofing materials from the structure and scattered them across the highway.
Debris from the damaged roof blocked both lanes of the road, leaving motorists stranded for hours.
Some residents also reported that scavengers carted away parts of the damaged structure amid the chaos.
The terminal project forms part of a broader N96 billion transport infrastructure programme approved by the Federal Executive Council to improve urban mobility in Abuja.
While officials described the damage as minor, the incident has raised questions about the structural integrity of a major public project that had not yet been opened to commuters.
For critics, the development reinforces longstanding concerns about the quality of public infrastructure projects in Nigeria.
