The House of Representatives has ordered the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to suspend the newly announced electricity tariff increase, citing concerns over due process, fairness, and impact on consumers.
The House also called for the suspension of other conditions in the newly issued review of the Multi-Year Tariff Order.
A special committee has been set up to organize a well-structured hearing on the price regulation of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), with participation from relevant stakeholders, including the Minister of Power, NERC officials, electricity utility executives, labor leaders, and chamber of commerce representatives.
The committee will also work with a technical consultant to draft a bill for administrative procedures that ensure proper consultation and legislative review of the tariff-setting process.
