Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, Sole Administrator of Rivers State, has again failed to honour an invitation by the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight.
Despite attending the National Economic Council meeting in Abuja, Ibas did not show up for the rescheduled interactive session on April 24, 2025.
This marks the second time he has ignored the panel, which was inaugurated on April 15 and chaired by Rep. Julius Ihonvbere. The session aimed to assess developments in Rivers since Ibas’ appointment.
Sources say no explanation was given for his latest absence, and it remains unclear whether he officially acknowledged the invitation. Lawmakers exited Committee Room 301 without briefing the press, with Ihonvbere simply stating, “No comment.”
Initially postponed at Ibas’ request, the meeting has now been deferred indefinitely, raising concerns about accountability and cooperation with legislative oversight.
The silence from both the administrator and the committee fuels speculation about strained relations and lack of transparency surrounding state affairs under Ibas’ watch.
