Sanusi Reinstated as Emir of Kano, 5 Others Deposed

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the reappointment of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 14th Emir of Kano, effective immediately.

The Governor also ordered the five former emirs to vacate their official residences and hand over emirate properties to the Commissioner of Local Governments within 48 hours.

Sanusi was deposed in 2020 after a dispute with former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, who had created five new emirates in the state. However, the Kano State House of Assembly has now abolished these emirates and reinstated Sanusi as the sole Emir of Kano.

The five deposed emirs have been given a 48-hour ultimatum to leave their official residences and surrender emirate properties.

The development marks a significant shift in the political landscape of Kano State and is seen as a move to restore traditional authority and promote peace and stability in the region.
