Former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki has called for measured, transparent resolution over the simmering conflict between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The controversy erupted after the Kogi Central lawmaker alleged that Akpabio dismissed her motion for the Ajaokuta Steel Complex because she rejected his sexual advances, a claim that led to her suspension and referral to the Senate Ethics Committee.
In a televised interview, Natasha maintained that she possesses concrete evidence to substantiate her allegation, while Akpabio’s wife has staunchly defended her husband, hinting at potential legal action against the accuser.
Speaking on social media, Saraki expressed deep sadness at how the incident has negatively impacted the Senate’s integrity and public image.
He stressed that all parties must be mindful of their actions and that an open, unbiased investigation by the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions is imperative to uncover the truth. “We must protect the sanctity and reputation of this institution,” Saraki wrote.
He clarified that he was not passing judgment on either side but insisting that adherence to constitutional norms and Senate rules is essential for restoring public trust in the legislative body.
