The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has reduced Nigeria’s Hajj allocation from 95,000 to 66,910 pilgrims, effective from 2026, due to the country’s failure to utilise previous quotas.
According to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), the adjustment was reflected on Saudi’s NUSUK Masar portal and will affect seat allocations for each state.
Deputy Director of Information Fatima Sanda Usara said the new figure was discussed during a meeting between NAHCON and state officials on Hajj costing and logistics.
Commission Chairman Prof. Abdullahi Saleh Usman urged unity and efficiency, while Commissioner of Operations Prince Anofiu Elegushi said allocations will now depend on each state’s 2025 performance.
NAHCON added that discussions are ongoing to cut costs such as cargo and banking charges, without compromising service quality.
The agency also emphasized the need for proper medical screening of pilgrims, as required by Saudi authorities.
Officials expressed confidence that Nigeria’s 2026 Hajj operations will improve with stronger coordination and early planning.
