Nigerian Senators have rejected President Tinubu’s request to deploy Nigerian troops to Niger Republic as part of an ECOWAS force to restore the democratically elected president.
Instead, they called for intensified negotiations and a diplomatic solution, with elder statesmen like Obasanjo, Gen Ali Gusau, and Abdulsalam Abubakar as special envoys.
Senators expressed concerns about Nigeria’s ill-equipped military, fragile peace, and prioritize addressing internal security challenges like Boko Haram, banditry, and ESN/IPOB.
The Senate returned to plenary to pass a resolution condemning the coup.
